Northwest Rubies Make a Showing

Corvette’s Unlimited of Bellingham, Washington held their annual All Corvette Show and Shine and fundraiser on Sunday, August 14, 2005.   Ruby owner, Roger Barton, decided to host a Ruby Gathering as a “show within a show.”

Discussions with other Ruby owners in the area, including British Columbia and Washington, caused the event to develop.  Contacts with persons involved in planning other Ruby gatherings helped Roger to create a banner displaying the 40th Anniversary Registry Logo. In addition, Roger had a very impressive display of Ruby Red memorabilia on hand.  As an incentive to Ruby owners to continue their participation in any future International Pacific Northwest Ruby gatherings, Roger provided lovely “1st Ruby Red “ ribbons to all participants in attendance, as well as two ribbons to Ruby owners who were not able to attend.

There were seven Rubies on display that day:

Roger Barton (Coupe), from Bellingham, Washington
Mike Botwin (Coupe), from Bellingham, Washington
Jim Waugh (Coupe), from Vancouver, B.C. Canada
Al Pratt (Convertible), from Laurel, Washington
Ross Smith (Convertible), from Vancouver, B.C. Canada
Ron Telles (Convertible), from Oak Harbor, Washington
Karl Schuetz (ZR1), from Vancouver, B.C.  Canada

Due to previous commitments, Mark Gabelein (Coupe), from South Whidbey, Washington and Rob Blake (Coupe), from West Vancouver, B.C. Canada were not able to attend.  Hopefully, we will see them next year in Bellingham!

This was Corvette’s Unlimited’s 3rd annual All Corvette Show and Shine sponsored by Haggen Food and Pharmacy.  Haggen provided trophies, door prizes, bottled water and music for the event.  Various merchants in Bellingham and other areas of Whatcom donated a number of items to be raffled.  All proceeds raised ($2,000.00 approximately) benefited “Blue Skies For Children”, a program that provides clothing, school supplies and other essentials to homeless, foster and low-income children in Whatcom County.

Weather that day was perfect!  There were about 75 to 80 Corvettes in all six classes participating in the show.  There were three trophies given for each class.   There was a “People’s Choice” award, where community members could vote for their favorite; and Haggen employees were also able to vote for the “Haggen” award.    A Mystery Cruise to the Silver Reef Casino and Lummi Island followed the event.  All in all, a very successful event!
